Man killed in Rogersville after embankment collapses on excavator

A man operating an excavator in Hawkins County was killed when an embankment collapsed and covered the machine.

Information from the Hawkins County Rescue Squad said their crews were summoned to property located off Route 70 North in Rogersville on Tuesday afternoon just after 2 p.m.

Emergency personnel and workers from three area towing companies worked to remove the equipment from underneath several yards of dirt and debris. The medical techs then were able to remove the body of Chris Williamson, 43.

Rescue officials closed off a portion of Route 70 to traffic during the operation.
