NEW: Two men taken to hospital after shooting on Lee Highway in Abingdon

Two men were found with gunshot wounds to their legs when Washington County, Virginia deputies arrived at the scene of an attempted robbery Wednesday afternoon.

The officers administered first aid to the victims found on the property at 19430 Lee Highway in Abingdon just before 2 p.m. who were then airlifted by medical helicopter and transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.

Sheriff Blake Andis said a gun and other evidence have been collected at the scene but detectives tell him at this point the incident was isolated between the two men. He also said more information on the case would be released as it became available
