Northern, VA man convicted of involuntary manslaughter in May 2019 crash that killed two in Russell County
A Northern, VA man has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving for a fatal head-on crash that killed two last May in Russell County, VA.
Prosecutors say Treymane Ferguson, 52, drove in the wrong direction for five miles on Route 19, passing through several cautionary signs and driving through a traffic signal at the Route 58 intersection before crashing into a vehicle the night of May 3rd, 2019. The crash took the life of Candace R. Barnes, 47, and Brenda Fields, 66. The Russell County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office obtained special permission from the Virginia Department of Transportation to shut down Route 19 to recreate the accident.
A jury found Ferguson guilty of his charges following a two day trial on Thursday. Sentencing is scheduled for September 24.
