Fire near Watauga Lake burns into its fifth day

Fire crews are now in their fifth day of fighting a blaze in Carter County that has charred more than 5 acres since the weekend.

Smoke is visible from the shores of Watauga Lake near Hampton as workers with the USDA Forest Service and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency establish fire lines with physical barriers to stop the flames on Little Pond Mountain.

A TWRA spokesperson says no structures are in danger and 20 additional workers from North Carolina are being bused-in to help.
