Ballad Health Unveils New Air Rescue Transport Service
Ballad Health is unveiling its new Highlands Emergency Air Rescue and Transport service, better known as HEART. The new air rescue service is a partnership with MedTrans Corporation, providing emergency medical air transportation across the entire Appalachia Highlands Region. The new service replaces the Wings and Wellmont branding the health care provider previously used. The helicopter has an experienced and highly trained crew of a flight nurse, flight paramedic and pilot. The craft also contains advanced medical equipment found in emergency departments or intensive care units. Ballad Health also continues its partnership with the Virginia State Police MedFlight II program, with that service based at Virginia Highlands airport in Abingdon.
