Kingsport City Schools BOE votes to delay start of school year to Aug. 10, no decision made on if students will return to the classroom

Kingsport City Schools will delay the start of the academic year until August 10th, but a decision has not yet been made on if students will return to the classroom or if the academic year will begin online.
During an electronic called meeting Tuesday night, board members unanimously voted to table approval of the Kingsport City Schools 2020-21 operations manual, citing the inability to review TN Governor Bill Lee’s state recommendations on reopening that was released right before the meeting was set to begin. Board members expressed desire to review the state materials with Kingsport City’s proposed plans before it makes a final approval.
Meanwhile, board members also gave unanimous approval to move the start date of the school year from August 3rd to August 10th.
Another called meeting will take place once the board is able to review the state’s recommendations and can make appropriate revisions to the current proposed plans for the school system.
