A competitor seriously injured while racing Friday at Kingsport Speedway has been discharged from the hospital.
A statement on his official Facebook page says late model driver Derrick Lancaster suffered a fracture at the base of his skull in the crash. His wife reported on the site that the injury is commonly called a hangman’s fracture and is similar to the break that killed driver Dale Earnhardt in 2001 in Daytona.
Lancaster, 47, who also has five ARCA Series race starts to his credit, will now undergo physical therapy according to his team while doctors have advised him against racing in the future.
