Northam marks somber anniversary of Charlottesville riots

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam issued a statement Wednesday commemorating the third anniversary of the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville where three people were killed including two Virginia State policemen.

Northam paused to honor the victim’s memory and said the Commonwealth must continue to do more to deal with systemic racism.

Heather Heyer was also killed that weekend when a car plowed through a crowd of peaceful protesters. A two-hour documentary on the event entitled “Impact of Hate: Charlottesville” is set to premiere on Investigation Discovery this week.
