NEW: TSSAA Board of Control votes for winter sports classification changes beginning in 2021-2022

Winter sports in designated Tennessee high schools will have new classifications beginning in the 2021-22 season.

The Board of Control for the TSSAA voted to expand Division 1 schools from three to four classes in basketball, baseball, and softball while allowing eight teams to compete in the state tournament in each sport.

Fall sports such as football will remain in their traditional class format through 2023 which is based on 20-day enrollment for state schools.
