Virginia Senate Puts Off Vote On Eviction Moratorium
Southwest Virginia renters as well as others across the Commonwealth who have fallen behind on their rent due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, saw the Virginia Senate put off a vote to block evictions until next year. A senate committee has decided to delay taking a vote on the issue until next May after landlords expressed strong concerns about the bill. Its been estimated that as many as 262 thousand households in Virginia are at risk of eviction and that 16 percent of renters did not pay July’s rent.
