VSP: Gate City Police Officer transported to hospital following three car crash in Scott County
A three vehicle crash that sent a Gate City, VA Police Officer to the hospital is under investigation by state police.
Virginia State Police says the accident happened Tuesday night in Scott County on Route 71 near Route 792, when a 2016 Ford Explorer traveling south, driven by Stacy Crull, 50, of Gate City, Va., crossed the centerline and struck a Ford F-350 truck carrying a 16-foot cattle trailer that was traveling north. The explorer then struck a 2020 Ford Explorer, driven by on duty Gate City Police Officer Ethan Penley, 22, of Scott County, Va., before the 2016 explorer came to rest on its side.
Crull was flown to Bristol Regional Medical Center for serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and Penley was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the F-350, Donald Osborne, 56, of Lebanon, Va., was not injured. He was also not transporting any livestock at the time of the crash.
Charges are pending.
