Coomes Recreation Center in Abingdon, VA reopening in phases starting Oct. 7

Town of Abingdon officials have announced plans to reopen the Coomes Recreation Center in phases beginning next month.

Oct. 7 is the scheduled day the center will reopen under phase one, which will allow members and visitors to access the main areas of the building like weight rooms, the cardio suite, spin bike area, indoor walking track, and gymnasium. During the first reopening phase, locker rooms and the indoor pool will be closed.

The town says anyone visiting the center must follow state and local health guidelines. The town anticipates remaining in phase one throughout the rest of the calendar year before it will consider moving into a second phase of reopening.

Hours of operation will be Monday-Friday from 7 a.m-7 p.m, and Saturday from 8 a.m-1 p.m. The facility will be closed on these dates for holidays:

Columbus Day October 12
Veterans Day November 11
Thanksgiving November 26-28
Christmas December 24-26
