UPDATE: Hawkins County officials confirm father also charged with abuse in death of infant

The father of an infant found abused in Hawkins County a year ago has been jailed on an aggravated child abuse charge.

Official records from Sheriff Ronnie Lawson’s office says Andrew Scott Smith, 50, of Rogersville, was booked into the county jail on the same day as the baby’s mother, Jennifer Elise Smith.

The couple is facing charges for the death of 8-month-old Malcolm Smith who died after two weeks of treatment for his injuries at a Knoxville hospital in July 2019.

Jennifer Smith, 33, is scheduled for arraignment in Sessions Court next month.
