Classes at Honaker Elementary move online as staff member tests positive for COVID-19

A staff member at Honaker Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a report issued Tuesday by Russell County Public Schools.

The person was on the school campus on Tuesday and did have direct exposure with other members while visiting, according to the message.

That has led the system to institute all online learning for the remainder of the week for elementary students while faculty and other staff will be working from home.

The system also said that local health department workers are identifying those who came into contact with the person with the virus. The agency will contact any parents whose child might have been exposed.

Honaker students will return to in-person classes as part of their hybrid schedule on Monday, Sept. 21.
