Va Dept. of Elections launches “Free to be Absentee” voting campaign

The Virginia Department of Elections has launched a new campaign aimed at educating residents about absentee and early voting as potential options in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The campaign called “Free to Be Absentee” is working to better inform voters about changes in the absentee voting process, after legislation passed this year allowing any eligible voter to vote by mail without an excuse.

Department of Elections Commissioner Christopher Piper says the department wants voters to know of all of the options they have to cast their ballots for the upcoming November election. “We are excited about our new campaign and committed to ensuring that all eligible Virginia voters are able to make their voices heard,” said Piper.

The state election department started the campaign Monday and features a series of digital ads as well as social media content with thorough information on voting details in the Commonwealth. More information is available about the campaign here.
