Pedestrian in Kingsport seriously injured while crossing roadway

A pedestrian in Kingsport received life-threatening injuries after police said she was struck by an SUV while trying to cross Fairview Avenue Tuesday night.

Melissa D. Brandon was in the path of the vehicle traveling southbound just before 8:30. Another pedestrian was not injured. Brandon was listed in critical condition.

Preliminary details released by the Kingsport Police Department show the pedestrians were attempting to go across the roadway and did not use the crosswalk or attempt to cross at the intersection. The incident remains under investigation.
