Virginia Lottery Board approves regulations for sports betting
The Virginia Lottery Board has met a deadline set by the General Assembly as its approved a regulatory framework for sports betting in the Commonwealth.
Now that those standards have been approved, applications for a sports betting license will begin being taken next month, as only 18 will be issued including a maximum potential of 12 internet only betting permits. Approved legislation states that bets will be allowed to be placed on professional and college sporting events, except those that include any Virginia college or university.
Some of the betting licenses can also be allowed in casinos, including in the proposed casino in Bristol, as long as they are approved by referendum vote in the November election.
