TDH to participate in CDC program on suicide prevention, receiving $750,000 in grant funds
Tennessee’s Department of Health is receiving $750,000 in funding for suicide prevention efforts over the next five years.
The department is one of nine organizations across the country chosen to be apart of a new Comprehensive Suicide Prevention Program sponsored by the CDC. The program will focus on better approaches to addressing suicide risk factors for vulnerable populations with the use of science and data.
Last year, the department of health reported 1,220 people in Tennessee died by suicide, including 32 children under 17 years of age. The state’s suicide rate has also increased by 24% over the last six years.
