Former Carter County Sheriff jailed for second time this year
The former sheriff of Carter County, Tennessee has been thrown in jail for the second time this year.
A report issued by the agency said George Papantoniou was charged with disorderly conduct and assault following an incident Wednesday at the Carter County Justice Center where he failed to comply with deputies then verbally and physically assaulted an officer before being taken into custody.
Papantoniou, 84, was at the center to pick up guns taken from him after he was arrested for pointing the weapons at a neighbor during a property dispute in March. The sheriff’s office reported that the victim recently died and the case was being dropped by prosecutors due to lack of evidence.
Papantoniou was released after posting a $1,000 bond.
