UPDATE: More virus clusters discovered on Appalachian State campus
Administrators at Appalachian State are staging additional testing this weekend as more clusters of COVID-19 have been identified on campus by state health officials.
App State Chancellor Sheri Everts said the school has no confirmed cases of classroom transmission but four dormitories now have more than a dozen students in treatment for the virus.
The chancellor also reported that students living on-campus can opt-out of housing contracts and return to their hometowns to finish the semester while the Mountaineers’ football program has suspended practices following four new virus cases including one player.
The school is also partnering with the Boone Police Department with increased patrols around off-campus housing where large numbers of students reside.
