Former NASCAR Xfinity driver Eric McClure given judicial diversion in Smyth County in domestic violence case
Former NASCAR Xfinity Series driver and Southwest Virginia resident Eric McClure has pleaded no contest to a 2018 charge of assault and battery.
Official records show McClure was found guilty for the misdemeanor crime in Smyth County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court and had appealed the case to Circuit Court where he appeared this week.
A judge granted McClure judicial diversion with no jail time and ordered him to attend counseling services while on probation.
The Associated Press reported McClure was arrested following a fight with his wife at their home. The story said that the couple’s 9-year-old daughter called 911 following the assault. At that point, McClure had been out of racing for three years with health problems from multiple concussions.
His wife Miranda told the AP that her husband was abusive throughout their 14 years of marriage.
