UPDATE: Johnson City attempted robbery suspect shot twice by store clerk’s husband now in custody
A suspect accused of attempting to rob two Johnson City businesses who was shot twice by a store clerk’s husband is now in police custody.
Police say Dequan Rushing, 35, of Ellenwood, GA, allegedly fired a shot inside the Tri-City Wholesale the night of Oct. 20 in an attempted robbery, then reportedly tried to rob the Scotchman on E. Unaka Ave. less than an hour later. Officers say the store clerk’s husband intervened and shot Rushing twice, before Rushing fled from the store.
He was apprehended by a police canine but taken to the hospital with serious injuries from gunshot wounds sustained in the incident. Rushing is now being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $151,000 bond while facing several charges related to the two alleged attempted robberies, including aggravated robbery, attempted aggravated robbery, three counts of aggravated assault, especially aggravated kidnapping, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and resisting arrest.
He was due in court Thursday morning.
