Police investigating three separate fatal crashes following deadly weekend on TN, Va roadways

Three people have died following fatal crashes over the weekend in Tennessee and Virginia.

The first of three accidents happened just after midnight Saturday morning in Unicoi County, when a Honda Civic, driven by Logan Ousley, 23, of Chuckey, TN was traveling south on Scioto Rd. at a high rate of speed around a curve. A crash report from Tennessee Highway Patrol says Ousley lost control, overcorrected, went airborne and collided into a utility pole, causing the vehicle to separate into two pieces. THP reported Ousley had been consuming alcohol at the time of the crash and the state agency has ordered an alcohol and drug test.

The second of three fatal accidents occurred Saturday afternoon in Wythe County, Va. Virginia State Police say a tractor-trailer was traveling south on Interstate 81 near mile marker 74 just before 12 p.m, when the 18-wheeler slid off the right side of the road and continued on to US Highway 11. State Police say as it crossed over onto Highway 11, the vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest on a railroad track. Driver Ronnie Cook, 60, of Ellijay, Ga, died at the scene. The tractor-trailer was loaded with 42,000 pounds of plastic. Below are images from the wreck:

The third and final accident occurred on Saturday night in Wise County, as VSP says Robert Phillips II, 34, of Pennington Gap, Va was traveling on a motorcycle eastbound on Route 58A just before midnight and slid off the right side of the road into a guardrail. Phillips was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene.

All three crashes remain under investigation as of Monday morning.
