Players at Elizabethton, David Crockett among semifinalists for Tennessee’s Mr. Football
Three local athletes are among the semifinalists announced Thursday for the 36th Annual Mr Football awards that are presented jointly by the TSSAA and the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.
Winners are selected from the state’s nine high school divisions. Players are nominated by coaches and members of the media based on achievements on the gridiron as well as academic and social performance.
In Division 4A, Elizabethton’s Troy Parker Hughes and Bryson Rollins were selected among five semifinalists while Prince Kollie of David Crockett High School was nominated in Division 5A.
The fields will be narrowed down to three finalists in each class on Nov. 17th and will receive an invitation to the Dec. 8 luncheon to announce the winners that will be held at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.
Former Mr Football winners from our area include Greeneville’s Cade Ballard, who claimed that title in 2017 and 2018, and Dustin Moore in 1993, Cloudland’s Mark Byrd and Dane Christman in 2003, and Sullivan South’s Sam Haynie in 1994.
