THP: Unicoi Co. man taken to hospital with serious injuries following crash on I-26 involving tractor-trailer and deer
A Unicoi County man is in the hospital with serious injuries following a crash involving a semi and deer Wednesday night on I-26.
A Tennessee Highway Patrol crash report says the accident happened around mile marker 31 just past the Unicoi Dr. exit around 6:30 p.m, when a Honda CRV, driven by Frank Boyd, 69, struck a deer which caused the vehicle to go into the median where it collided with a cable barrier. The car pushed through the barrier into oncoming traffic where it collided with a tractor-trailer.

Semi driver Austin Adkins, 27, of Beaverdam, VA, was uninjured, while Boyd had to be extricated from his car and taken to Johnson City Medical Center. The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
