Free passes to ‘Speedway in Lights’ fills void of cancellation of Bristol Christmas Parade
Bristol Chamber of Commerce Director Beth Rhinehart said at a Friday morning news conference that the annual Christmas parade downtown on State Street was being canceled after speaking with city leaders and find no safe solution to hold the event due to the pandemic.
The loss of one holiday tradition will allow students to attend another as a result.
BMS, Speedway Children’s Charities, the chamber, and Food City announced a special arrangement that will have vouchers sent home with 4,000 children in the Bristol area that will allow them to visit ‘Speedway in Lights’ during the holiday season.
Bristol Motor Speedway General Manager Jerry Caldwell said the pooling of resources to give this opportunity to kids who would otherwise be unable to attend was a silver lining in such a difficult year.
