UPDATE: Federal judge dismisses city’s suit brought against Virginia’s ‘red flag’ law
A piece of Governor Ralph Northam’s gun reform legislation has cleared a legal hurdle with a federal judge dismissing a suit brought against Virginia’s red flag law.
Attorney General Mark Herring defended the act in US District Court that heard arguments from the City of Charlottesville’s Commonwealth’s Attorney and chief of police who called it unconstitutional.
Herring said the law has already worked in keeping guns out of the hands of those who could hurt themselves or others. Suits challenging laws that limit gun purchases to one per month and expanded background checks have also been dismissed in court this year.
