NEW: One person of interest in Elizabethton drive-by shooting in custody as Lunceford searches for ‘thugs’
One person of interest is in custody and two others are being sought following a drive-by shooting in Elizabethton Tuesday morning that Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford said targeted the home in question.
“Please, people out there listening to me, somebody saw something, somebody heard something, call us. Help us put these bunch of thugs in jail where they belong,” Lunceford said in the afternoon news conference.
The victim was a 9-year-old girl who the sheriff said was asleep on a couch in a front room of a trailer a family of 7 or 8 people lived in on Blevins Road. Her identity has not been released.
The TBI is now assisting at least 15 Carter County investigators Lunceford has assigned to the case. He noted that there is not a threat to the public because of some of the preliminary information they have received in the case.
The department is now looking for the people and the car used in the crime and the sheriff is asking neighbors in and around that area to review their security camera footage if possible for potential information that could help in the case.
“We believed that (the possible suspects) came out and turned right on Highway 91, the Johnson City-Elizabethton highway, and went up Revista Hill,” said Lunceford who also said the investigation remains active.
