Carter County Commission appoints interim Mayor Patty Woodby to Mayor

Leaders in Carter County have appointed interim Mayor Patty Woodby as new mayor to fill the position vacated in the death of former Mayor Rusty Barnett.

During the lengthy Carter County Commission meeting Monday night, commissioners nominated five of seven qualified candidates, who were then asked questions about the county on topics related to things like the ongoing pandemic, plans on future job growth, tackling the drug epidemic, homelessness, and how they would acclimate themselves to the office with a shortened term.

Commissioners selected Woodby in a 16-7 majority vote, and she will assume the office immediately to serve out the term which ends in Aug. of 2022.
