UVA alum John Paul “Jack” Jones dies at 100
Alums and students alike at the University of Virginia are mourning the loss of philanthropist John Paul “Jack” Jones who died over the weekend at the age of 100.
Jones graduated from the UVA School of Law in 1948 following his service in the early 40s in the US Navy during World War II. His family has also been involved in journalism since the 1800s by forming what became the Memphis Daily News.
Virginia’s newest basketball arena on campus bears Jones’ name following a $35 million gift from his son prior to the 2016 opening.
