Methamphetamine Overdoses In Virginia Exceed 55 Percent…Southwest Virginia Reports Highest Numbers In Commonwealth

Since the pandemic begin in March of 2019, methamphetamine overdoses in Virginia have increased more than 55 percent compared to the same time period in 2018…and Southwest Virginia is one of the leading regions of the state in Methamphetamine overdose fatalities. 198 people lost their lives in 2019 across Virginia due to meth overdoses. That’s according to the Virginia Department of Health’s Fatal Drug Overdose Quarterly Report. The figures show southwest Virginia reporting between seven and thirteen deaths per one hundred thousand people. The number of fatal overdoses in the Commonwealth in 2019 is the largest annual number ever reported in Virginia.
