NEW: VHSL rescinds mask mandate for winter sports during practices and games

A clause in the governor’s executive order will allow Virginia high school athletes to practice and compete without a mask this winter and spring.
A statement from VHSL Executive Director Billy Haun said the previous directive requiring masks was rescinded on Monday because of an exemption allowed in Executive Order 72 that strongly encourages the use of masks but not requires it.

Teams across the Commonwealth are entering their second week of practice for winter designated sports. Games can begin on Dec. 21.
