VSP reminds public of ‘Move Over’ law following crash that injured two troopers
A stark reminder of Virginia’s ‘move over’ law played out on Interstate 81 on Monday.
Two troopers responding to a crash in Wythe County were inside a Virginia State Police cruiser with blue lights in operation when the vehicle was struck by a car driven by William Porter, 25, of Rural Retreat.
The VSP report said the officers identified as troopers J.G. Carico and K.D. Nelson were transported to a medical center for treatment of minor injuries. Porter was charged with reckless driving and defective equipment.
The Move Over law requires drivers to transfer into another lane or cautiously pass any vehicle posted on the side of the road with either red, blue, or amber lights.
