NEW: Suspect in 2016 homicide in Washington County, Tennessee caught, jailed in Asheville
A four-year cold case involving the dead body of a female victim found near the Watauga River now has a prime suspect.
Washington County, Tennessee investigators announced Wednesday the arrest of Zefrin Leigh Parker, a homeless man located near Asheville, who is now charged with felony murder.
Sheriff Ed Graybeal said recently submitted DNA information in Virginia matched genetic information gathered at the scene of the crime.
Parker, 31, is accused of killing Kelia Marie Gilbert-Taylor, 40, whose partially-clothed body was found by fishermen on Christmas Eve 2016 near Herb Hodge Road.
Parker is currently lodged in the Buncombe County Jail on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to be in court for a potential extradition hearing on Jan. 4.
