UPDATE: Gray murder suspect identified as suspect that shot and killed self during Thursday pursuit

A murder suspect wanted in the killing of a woman in Gray earlier this week has shot and killed himself following a pursuit Thursday on Highway 11W in Sullivan County.

The Washington County, TN Sheriff’s Office reports Ralph Davenport, 45, was pronounced dead and was the suspect involved in a pursuit with police that started in Kingsport and ended near the Highway 11W JH Fauver intersection after officials say he shot himself and crashed his vehicle.

Officers had been looking for Davenport since Tuesday after they said he shot and killed Leslie Dawn Belt, 43, at a home on Ford Creek Rd. Davenport was on supervised release from federal charges and was previously convicted in 1993 on voluntary manslaughter for the killing of a Johnson City man.
