NEW: Virginia Department of Health to receive less COVID vaccine doses than initially planned

Virginia is expected to receive less COVID-19 vaccine doses than initially planned over the next few weeks.
The state department of health said Friday in a news release that it was informed by Operation Warp Speed that it would receive just over 370,000 doses from both Pfizer and Moderna, down from the previously expected 480,000 doses. The state reported that 18 Virginia hospitals received initial shipments of the Pfizer vaccine which are currently being distributed to frontline healthcare workers, including in Southwest Virginia.
Health officials have also placed an order of 146,600 Moderna COVID vaccine doses that will begin arriving next week if approved by the FDA.
