Northeast TN Rep. Hawk proposing bill to redirect online sports gambling funds back to school districts for construction, maintenance improvements
One Northeast TN lawmaker has filed legislation aimed at helping school systems gain funding for improvements from the new online sports betting program launched in November.
5th District Rep. David Hawk of Greene County is proposing HB0048, which if passed, intends to redirect equal revenue from online sports wagers to go back into school districts based on a per student basis for construction or maintenance improvements to school buildings.
“I’m trying to create a revenue stream that will bring a little bit of money towards maintenance and facilities needs to keep the tax burden off of our local governments,” said Hawk.
Hawk says that potential funding is a question mark as for now with the sports wagering program just recently launching.
