Driving In Virginia While Using Cell Phone Soon To Become Illegal
Beginning this Friday it will be against the law in Virginia to use a cell phone while driving a motor vehicle and a southwest Virginia Commonwealth’s Attorney is urging citizens to obey the new rule for safety’s sake. Wise County and the City of Norton Attorney General Chuck Slemp has penned an opinion letter stating, Quote, “please put down the phone. Otherwise, your next time behind the wheel may have to be a visit to the courthouse.” Drivers can’t even hold a cellular device during starting New Years Day. Texting and driving appear to be the most alarming distraction. Taking your eyes of the road for five seconds at 55 mph is equal to driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed. Police can and will pull you over.
