Virginia DGS: Capitol Square to close in Richmond through Jan. 21 amid possible demonstrations
Virginia’s Dept. of General Services is closing Capitol Square for the next week in response to possible upcoming demonstrations around Richmond.
The closure also comes following last week’s insurrection at the US Capitol in Washington, and DGS is taking precautionary measures to protect employees, visitors, and the buildings around the Capitol grounds. Enhanced security steps taken include the installation additional fencing in and around Capitol Square and DGS-controlled buildings will be restricted starting Sunday.
The measures are expected to remain in place at least through Jan. 21.
