MLK Jr. events scheduled today across Northeast TN and Southwest VA
A number of events celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day are scheduled across our region.
Bristol and Abingdon will hold a virtual MLK celebration today at 2 p.m. In Johnson City, Carver Recreation Center will hold a Martin Luther King Jr. storytelling event dedicated to local youth from 9 a.m-12 p.m, followed by a carryout luncheon from 12-2 p.m. And in Kingsport, events include an in-person parade at E Sevier & Center St. starting at 11:15, with a community carryout luncheon to follow at the Kingsport Farmer’s Market at 1 p.m.
King University’s Institute for Faith and Culture will hold a virtual conversation this evening as part of Bristol, TN’s MLK Jr. celebration. The online event will feature community leaders as panelists to discuss Dr. King’s book: Where do we go from here: chaos or community?, who will guide participants through its historical context and visionary challenges. The Facebook live event starts tonight at 7 p.m.
