UPDATE: Two suspects hospitalized following officer-involved shooting in Kingsport
(11:30 UPDATE)
Two suspects are hospitalized following a police-involved shooting Monday morning in Kingsport.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Leslie Earhart said a Hawkins County deputy initiated a pursuit after spotting a stolen truck on Highway 11W early Monday, and continued into the Kingsport city limits while Mt. Carmel Police joined in. Earhart told us the truck then came to a stop on Cherokee Village Dr. and the occupants got into another vehicle.
“As the car was attempting to leave the location, the driver reportedly drove towards the Hawkins County deputy, hitting him,” said Earhart.
Both the deputy and Mt. Carmel police officer fired shots at the car and struck two occupants. The vehicle drove further onto Cherokee Village Dr. before the individuals got out and fled. The two injured were arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment, while the Hawkins County deputy that was struck was also taken to the hospital but has since been released for non-life threatening injuries. The identities of the suspects and their conditions have not yet been released.
The second vehicle, the total amount of occupants inside, and the reasons as to why it was involved all remain under investigation as of 12:00 p.m Monday.
