Will Virginia Have Enough Vaccines For Mass Administration Of Shots? Probably Not.
Virginia will need mass vaccination sites to reach the state’s goal of giving 50 thousand shots a day to achieve what is called “heard immunity to COVID-19. However, according to published reports from the Associated Press, the Commonwealth probably won’t get enough vaccines to make that happen. Officials are pointing to the state’s current rate of vaccination supply, which is between 100 and 110 thousand doses a week, and that likely won’t change until vaccines from new suppliers like Johnson and Johnson and AstraZeneca become available. Still Virginia has no plans to pull back on expanding vaccines to Phase 1b, a group that includes firefighters, teachers, and essential workers.
