Virginia 9th District Republican Committee holding canvass Thursday to nominate candidate for 38th District State Senate

A party canvass has been scheduled for later this week to nominate a Republican candidate vying for a vacant Virginia state senate position formerly held by Ben Chafin.

Virginia’s 9th District Republican Committee is moving forward with their version of a primary, despite Gov. Ralph Northam’s writ of election that scheduled the special election for March 23.

Sen. Chafin represented the state’s 38th District until his death from COVID complications on Jan. 1. Six candidates have filed paperwork for the nomination and are listed below:

The canvass will be held at eight different locations across the counties covered by the open 38th District State Senate seat on Thursday from 1-7 p.m. The schedule is published below:
