Internet office worker in Haysi dead, gunman kills himself following shootout

A worker at an internet company in Dickenson County, Virginia is dead and the suspect killed himself after exchanging gunfire with deputies Monday afternoon.

Reports from Sheriff Jeremy Fleming said a male suspect went into Hillcom in the 24000 block of Dickenson Highway in Haysi and fired multiple shots killing one of the workers and then left the scene.

The suspect was then involved in a police pursuit that stretched over several miles into the Bartlick community and ended when he fired multiple shots at the officer and then used the rifle to shoot himself in the head. The officer was not injured in the incident.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Virginia State Police. The name of the victim has not been released.
