BREAKING: ETSU issues safety alert following armed robbery on West Maple Street near campus

East Tennessee State University issued a safety alert just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon following reports of an armed robbery that took place on West Maple Street.

The report said the suspect was still on the loose and was carrying a knife.

The suspect was described as a white male, 5 feet 3 inches tall, wearing a blue toboggan, dark green gator mask, light blue jacket, and he was wearing glasses.

The alert directed students and others to be aware of their surroundings and that police officers were in the area.
