Justice Department’s call for US Attorneys to resign could bring end to Overbey’s tenure
A call for all US Attorneys appointed by President Donald Trump to resign by President Biden and the Justice Department could end the four-year tenure of appointee and Kingsport native Doug Overbey.
Overbey was nominated in July 2017 by Trump, confirmed by the US Senate in November of that year, and then sworn in later that month. Prior to his appointment, he had his own law practice that spawned a 38-year career and he also served three terms in the Tennessee State Senate.
No official word from the US Attorney’s Office in Greeneville or Knoxville about Overbey’s status.
