DOJ: North Carolina sports supplement owner to spend one year in prison for distributing unapproved drugs
An owner of a NC sports supplement company will spend a year in federal prison after pleading guilty to distributing unapproved drugs into interstate commerce.
Brian Parks, 47, of Apex, NC, made that guilty plea last November in US District Court in Abingdon. He admitted that from June 2017 to September 2019, his company, then know as MedFitRX Inc., distributed SARMS, which are synthetic chemicals designed to mimic effects of testosterone and other anabolic steroids in addition to other substances they distributed that were not approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Prosecutors say Parks also admitted to omitting ingredients from MedFit product labels and falsely claimed his company was licensed and registered to sell these new drugs in his scheme to mislead consumers and the FDA.
