NEW: Virginia moving towards approving tuition-free community college program for low, middle-income students
Virginia lawmakers appear to be moving closer to establishing a program to offer tuition-free college to low and middle income state students.
The Get Skilled, Get a Job, Give Back, or G3 fund and program aims to provide financial assistance to low and middle income residents that enroll in a program at a community college that leads to an occupation in a certain high-demand field.
Gov. Ralph Northam is allotting over $30 million for the program in his proposed budget. The house of delegates have approved the measure while the bill is currently working its way through the senate.
