TDH: Registration for COVID-19 vaccine appointments to open to teachers and residents 65 and older on Feb. 22

Tennessee will begin registering COVID-19 vaccine appointments for teachers and adults 65 and older starting next Monday, February 22.

The department of health includes educators in their Phase 1b group as part of Tennessee’s vaccination plan. Eligible individuals can schedule an appointment online by clicking the link here. Once on the website, users should select their county to schedule their appointment, and enter their demographic information, which will allow them to be able to choose a date and time for their vaccination appointment. Residents who have already registered for a COVID-19 vaccination do not need to re-enter their information in the new system.

“Tennessee has administered more than one million doses of COVID-19 vaccine so far, and we’ve made substantial progress in protecting our senior citizens who are over age 70 through vaccination,” said Tennessee Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey, MD, MBA, FAAP. “While we remain focused on our seniors, who are the highest-risk population, we’re able to expand vaccine eligibility to these additional groups as our supply continues to grow each week.”

State health officials say they are also moving pregnant women into Phase 1c of their vaccination plan once the state enters into that phase. Dr. Piercey said in a news release that although pregnant women were not included in COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials, they are at an increased risk of hospitalization and death from coronavirus. The department of health encourages pregnant women to talk with their health care providers on making informed decisions on whether they should get vaccinated.
