Hawkins Co. Sheriff: Death investigation ongoing after human remains found in abandoned vehicle
A death investigation is underway in Hawkins County after authorities found a burned vehicle with a body inside.
Hawkins County Sheriff Ronnie Lawson says his office was called to the Repass Road area in the Mooresburg community on Feb. 21 where they found a badly burned Chevrolet Avalanche in a secluded area not visible from the road.
Human remains were located in the vehicle, which has been sent to the Quillen College of Medicine at ETSU for an autopsy.
Arson investigators with the TBI are assisting Hawkins County with the investigation, and anyone with information on the incident or the possible identity of the victim is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 423-272-4848 or Central Dispatch at 423-272-7121.
